Allah , said : " O you who have believed , when you rise to perform prayer , wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankle...." [Surah al Ma'idah : 6] This verse , states that performing ablution whenever rising to prayer is obligatory , and tell us which organs should be washed and those which should be wiped during wudhu and also specifies what part of them should be wiped or washed. Thus , through the Prophet's sayings , and practices , he has clearly shown us the way to perform ablution. Therefore , ablution has some conditions to be observed , which are : obligatory acts and Sunnah practices. It is to be noted that these both conditions must be fulfilled as much as possible in order to ensure the validity of ablution. Regarding Sunnah practices, they are considered complementary practices that guarantee the perfection of wudhu. It , thus , increase your's reward but abandoning them don't affect the validity of ablution. We will see the conditons of ablution as follow which are of number of 8 : 1. Being a Muslim [= ablution invalid if performed by a disbieliver , an insane person, 2. Being mentally sound [ = an insane person, a young child who doesn't distinguish between right and wrong} 3. Having discretion [ = age of discretion 7] 4. Having the intention of performing wudhu [ not to have the intention to refreshment as in the case of summer] 5. Using pure water 6. Using legally obtained water [ on the contrary , wudhu invalid] 7. Being preceded by istinja or istijma' [ if necessary , as stated in the previous article] 8. Removing what may prevent water from reaching skin of the organ [ = mud , dough , wax , thick paint must be removed ] Now , let's see the Obligation acts of ablution : There are 6 obligatory acts , related to the organs for ablution : 1.Washing the whole face : it also involves rinsing the mouth and the nose with water. It is thus to be understood clearly , that the wudhu will be void if one wahses one's face without rinsing them both because they belongs to the face. Moreover, the Prophet ( peace be upon him) used to do so. 2.Washing the forearms , including the elbows , for Allah said : " ....And your forearms to the elbows..." 3. Wiping over the whole head : It included the ears. For , the Prophet ( peace be upon him) said : " the ears are treated as part of the head". Therefore it is incorrect to abandon wiping over the ears. 4. Washing the feet including the ankles. 5. Sequence. 6. Succession. This means to wash the organs successively without any interval between washing 2 organs- i.e without pause. Concerning the Tasmiyah ( saying bismillah) at the beginning of wudhu , Scholars differ whether it is an act of Sunnah or obligatory act , therefore , it is not to be abandoned. But you may wonder , why those four organs? If someone ask you this , how will you answer ? The reason behind washing those 4 organs , may be because they are the commonest bodily parts related to sins. Even the Prophet ( peace be upon ) , taught us that whenever a Muslim washes one of these organs , the misdeeds committed by one or though them are remitted ( such misdeeds fall and vanish with the flow of water until the last drop). In additon , saying the Two testimony of faith ( shahada) after whudhu is a sign of combining both physical and spiritual purification. One though washing one's organs and the second that purify oneself from Shirk. The acts of Sunnah that are to be observed during Ablution 1. Using Siwak ( tooth-stick) during ablution : It is to be used when you rinse your month during ablution. It is in order to ensure , the cleanesss of the mouth and to be ready for worshipping Allah and Invoking Allah. 2. Starting ablution with washing the hands 3 times 3. Starting with rinsing the mouth and the nose before washing the face. 4. Inserting one's wet fingers into one's thick beard + toes well especially between them 5. Starting with the right organs before the left 6. Washing the face , hands and feet up to 3 times instead of once
