This Tawheed is about maintaining the Unity of Allah's names and Attributes.
This category has 5 main aspects : 1) In the 1rst aspect , Allah must be referred to according to how He and His Prophet have described Him ( Allah), without explaining His Names and Attributes by giving them meanings other than their obvious meaning. In the Qu'ran Allah says that He gets angry with the disbelievers and the hypocrites in Surat al Fath ( 48):6 , by this we should understand that anger is one of Allah's attributes , therefore his "anger" isn't His punishment as many of us think , because anger is a sign of weakness , that Allah does not benefit.. As we said earlier , His anger is not like the human's because He says : " There is nothing like Him" ( Surat ash Shoora , (42:11). Allah's attributes are totally different from those of men , in fact , the similiraty between God's attributes and man is in name only not in degree. The attributes used in reference to God are to be taken in the absolute sense. 2) This 2nd aspect involves in not giving Allah new names or attributes like Ar-Ghaadib ( the angry one) just because He does get angry , plus neither Allah or the Prophet used this name and this must be maintained in order to prevent the false description of God. Among commons names which cannot be attributed to Allah , we can find "An-Naasir" and "Ar-Rasheed" , their meanings are true and yet mentioned as attributes of Allah , but they can't be find in any Qu'ranic text or authentic hadeeth , you'll maybe see them in some hadeeths but they are unfortunately all inauthentic.( always check the sources) 3) Firstly , Bible and Torah says that God created the earth on 6 days and rested on the 7th, automatically , for them working on saturday and sunday is a sin. What we should understand from this , is , how can God rest and become tired after His work ? Isn't it supposed to be man who ties after work and not work? once again they compares God with His creation . Let's take another example , in the religion of judaism , God repents for the bad things He did to His people , their point of view is trying to show that God is like Human , how can God repents? only Human must repents .Their Lord is more like a genie in a bottle. Secondly , some of us declare that Allah has not hands , eyes and face , He does ! but simply they are not like His creation's , like in the english expression of " Hand's of the clock" we say Hand but they are not comparable to yours and mine, right? This is the complete reason we must be aware to compare ourselves to Allah. To finish this 3rd aspect , we can see that in Christians and Jews's Belief accept their creator as a Human being through paintaings and images of God, Hence , to them , accepting Jesus as God presents no problem at all. Thirdly , If someone ask you , How , you Muslims can worship God without statues or images like Christians and Jews? Reply them : We worship our Lord through His Attributes only ! There's no need for us to design God to worship Him since He has no likeness to His creation , our God is Unique. And if we ask Christians why and who Jesus's praying to while he was on the cross if He is really God ? They'll answer : It's just to show people how to pray . They consideraly don't want to deal with the real statement 4) This 4th aspect requires to man to not be given the attributes of Allah. let me explain to you. Most Sh'ia ( sect in Islam) have given their "Imams" divine attributes , Absolute Infallibility , like knowledge of the past , the future and unseen and the ability to change destiny ( qadar), Even, for the Shi'a , the belief of their Imams is one of their pillar. But who are the Imams ? - Ali , Husayn and Hassan plus 9 people after them also called " The twelves Imams". They are in fact , and indirectly giving rivals to Allah ( gods besides Allah) 5) 5th and last aspect of this category , is the fact that Allah's names cannot be given to His creation UNLESS preceded by prefix " ABD" which means " slave of " or " servant of". Raoof and Raheem are allowable names for men because Allah has used them in their indefinite forms to mention the Prophet : " A messenger has come to you from among yourselves who is grieved by whatever afflict you. He is full of concern for you , full of pity ( Ra'oof) and full of mercy ( Raheem) for the believers" ( Surah at Tawbah (9):128) Therefore , Ar-Raoof and Ar-Raheem can only be used if they are preceded by " ABD" or " ABDUR " as mentionned earlier , because AR alone represent a level of perfection only Allah benefit. On the other hand , being named like " Abdur Rassol " ( slave of the messenger) or Abdur-Nabee ( slave of the Prophet) is absolutely forbidden , because their names themselves slave to other than Allah , every name like those are haram. The Prophet hImself forbade muslims to put under their charge as " abdee ( my slave) or " amatee" ( my slave girl) they are originally Sh'ia names.

Tawheed ar Ruboobeyah or the maintains of the Oneness of Lordship,
In Arabic , the word used to describe this quality is Ruboobeyah which means " Creator-Sustainer" which is the derived from the root Rabb (Lord). This category is based on understanding that Allah alone caused all things to exist when there was nothing and nothing happens in creation exept what He allows to happen. As recognition of this reality , our Prophet Muhammad used to often repeat " La hawla wa laa quwaata illa billah" (There is no movement nor power exept by Allah's will). Where does the evil come from? Allah created all things but he didn't create the pure evil. The evil come through His creation and not directly from Him. What we should all know is that our good fortune and misfortune are merely predestined by Allah as part of the tests in our life. Even within good things of this life , there are severe tests of one's faith in God , likewise in the terrible events as well. They are only Allah's perfect plans , didn't He says ? ; " It is possible that you dislike something that is really good for you, or like something bad for you , but Allah knows what is the best for you and you do not" (Surat Al Baqarah 2:216). Let's take the example of Mussa ( aleyhi salam) and Khadr ( his valet) in Surat al Kahf we have the proof that there is a Good behind Evil when Khadr killed the son , broke the boat and so on , there was a total reason behind that , for the story of the little boy murdered it was because he was rebellious to his parents , and his parents were righteous so Allah sent Khadr and told him to kill the boy . Some of us will say , but why did he do that? The good behind it is that he was afraid that he would lead his parents to misguidance due to his rebellion character , so he killed him and the parents had a new baby girl and she was righteous , subhan'Allah. The human being is constantly thinking he knows everything and we do not trust Allah enough. We have the inability to deal with tragedy Sometimes evil events in humans lives turn out to be for the best and apparently good things which desire people turn out to be harmful. We should not attest like in some sects of Iran they believes that there is a God of Good which is the ultimate God and the God of Evil. We must understand that " good fortune " and "misfortune" are both from Allah and cannot be caused by good luck charms such as lucky numbers , zodiacal signs , four leaf clovers or by friday the 13th , black cats or breaking mirrors to designate the bad luck. As in many countries and muslims countries unfortunately the belief of charm still exist , and we should prevent it because believing in them is a manifestation of the biggest sin "Shirk = association". Many of us can associate Allah without even knowing , this is the reason we must learn and aware those around us. At the time of our Prophet ( peace be upon him) a group of men gave their allegiance to him and accepted the oath of all of them exept one because he was wearing an amulet ! Further the Prophet informed us that " Whoever wears an amulet has commited shirk" ( by Ahmad) Did you know that even using Qu'ran as a charm or amulet by wearing or carrying Qu'ranic verses on chains and thinking this can protect us or bring good fortune is commiting shirk? Neither the Prophet himself nor his companions used Qur'an for this , and the Prophet said : " Whoever innovates in Islam something which does not belong to it will have it rejected" ( reported by Aisha an collected by Al Bukhari). The Prophet taught us to follow his Sunnah and the Qu'ran , and in his Sunnah he taught us to recite surat al Falaq and al Nas specifiallised for excorsim ( removing evil spells) , He effectively demonestrated us the proper method, and didn't tell us to write them down or hang them around our neck. Note : It is not from the Sunnah to repeat the formula " A'udhu Billahi min ash-shaytaan-i'r rajeem." (I seek refuge in Allah from Devil ) before quoting a verse of Qu'ran. It is only permissible when you recite or read Qu'ran. In this first course you learn about the differents categories of Tawheed.
Firstly , Tawheed means literally " unification" or " making something one" or " asserting oneness". In arabic we also say Wahad which comes from the arabic verb "Wahadda" meaning to unite, unify or consolidate. From a Islamic view , to refer to Allah means realitzing and affirming Allah's unity in all of man's action that directly or indirectly relate to Him. It's also the Belief He is One , without partner , without rival in His dignity and worship. During this course you'll learn 3 words which are the differents categories of Tawheed : Domination : Ruboobeeyah Essence and Attributes : asmaa was sifaat Divinity and Worship : Ulooleyah 'ibaadah We'll also talk about the definition of Shirk which means to " share" to associate Allah with partners. It can take further depth and can be called " Idolatry". We can also add that , according to the Islamic Unitarian ( Tawheed) Christianity is polytheist and Judaism is a subtle form of Idolatry. but what is the real difference between Polytheism and Idolatry ? In fact , from a Islamic view , the both are similar as long as their meaning is to associate Allah with rivals. That was the Introduction of the categories of Tawheed , in the next page we'll learn more about the first Tawheed ar Ruboobeeyah!! |
